NALGA Victorian State Championships 2019

We had 17 starters (16 lefties & 1 righty Mike Stevenson) on Monday 14th October for our State Championships at Spring Valley. It was good to welcome new & returning members (Ron Pratt, Dean Jennings & Andrew Green) to our golf day. We hope you had an enjoyable day and look forward to seeing you at future events.

The Spring Valley course was in great condition, both fairways and greens and the weather was kind – 23 degrees with little wind.

Our sponsors for the day was Newhaven Wealth

It is with much regret I pass on the news of the passing of John Steley.

John was a Life Member of the Riverina Division of NALGA, also past Chairman and Life Member of the Australian Left Handed Golfers Association. He made a large contribution to lefty golf across Australia and will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Our condolences go out to his wife Evol, his family & friends

CRANBOURNE

We had 13 starters for our Lefty day at Cranbourne Golf Club, Friday August 30th including our recently crowned back to back Ladies World Champion Johanna Wyllie.

It was also good to welcome interstate member, Keith Martin (NSW), and guests Zdenka Better and Mike Steventon. Hope you all enjoyed the day with us

The Cranbourne course was in great condition considering the rain we have been having. The pro said the course was under a lot of surface water on the Wednesday but the fairways and greens were excellent, providing good playing conditions.

Competition of the day was Stableford, with no players finishing above 36 points

Results for the day 1st place – Brian Lynch 2nd place – Chris Morris 3rd place – Johanna Wyllie 4th place – Mike Stevenson 5th place – Bill Hammen 6th place – Barry Murphy Ball run down – all other players got a ball 36 points 32 points c/b 32 points 31 points 29 points 28 points

Pleasing to hear that George Kotaridis is on the mend after his recent hip replacement and is getting about without crutches and also wish Keith Marshall well with his continued recovery. Hope to see you both back on the golf course soon!

RESULTS:

In perfect conditions on the first day of winter we had a field of 12. The course is a beauty with gentle undulations and perfectly grassed fairways. They were holding a bit of water so there was limited run, but you were always guaranteed a very good lie. The first day of winter was cool, but not a breath of wind and bright sunshine.
